Kris Betts recently left the TV news business after more than a decade working and reporting all over the country.

After graduating with a degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Texas, Kris began her career at KTEN in Texoma then made the move to East Texas to anchor at the FOX affiliate.

In 2013, Kris started work as a reporter and weekend evening anchor at KVUE, the ABC News affiliate in Austin, Texas before moving to Rochester, NY as a morning anchor for 13 WHAM.

While at KVUE, Kris covered national news stories including Hurricane Harvey, the West fertilizer plant explosion, historic flooding in La Grange, and Beto O’Rourke’s election night loss.

Most recently, Kris won an Emmy for her report on the case against Rodney Reed, a convicted Texas man on death row involved in a highly controversial case.

Kris won an AP award for her report on a man stuck in a tree for hours after flooding in Austin. Her coverage on the man helped authorities track him down by helicopter so he could finally be rescued.

Kris also won an award for her work on behalf of a mother who needed help getting their van back from a shady mechanic so her handicapped son could get to his doctor’s appointments again.

She’s been nominated twice for Emmy awards for work exposing sexual harassment in Austin’s booming tech industry, and for breaking news coverage in 2016.

Kris is married to a retired K9 Austin Police Officer. She and her husband have two daughters and two dogs, including their retired K9 “Bear.”
